Explore the region’s railroad history and enjoy the fall scenery on a train ride from Johnstown to Altoona, with stops at key sites in Altoona. Tours depart from the Johnstown Train Station (and will begin with a brief overview of the building’s renovation plans) via Amtrak, and return from Altoona by bus.
Guests will visit the Altoona Railroaders Museum and the Horseshoe Curve, with retired Norfolk Southern RR employee Brian Lehman as guide.
Tour Schedule:
• 8:40 am – Guests arrive at Johnstown Passenger Train Station for 9 AM train
• 10:00 am – Train arrives in Altoona and Bus picks up passengers
• 10:45 am – Arrive and tour Horseshoe Curve
• 12:30 pm — Lunch at Cracker Barrel Restaurant (not included in ticket)
• 1:30 pm – Bus arrives at the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum
• 1:30 – Curator talk in the Roundhouse
• 2:00 – Watch film
• 2:20 – Group explores museum
• 3:00 – Meet volunteer Brian on second floor for a special talk
• 3:30 – Meet volunteer Brian on the third floor for a special talk
• 4:00 – Bus arrives at the Station Mall Rail Observation Area for a special talk
• 4:45 pm – Arrive at Altoona Railroad Station for 5 PM train
Tickets: $80/adult, $55/child (ages 2-11); $75/JAHA member adult, $50/member child.
