Around the turn of the century, thousands of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe came to the United States to build a better life for themselves and their families. Experience their story first-hand at the Frank & Sylvia Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center, which is operated by the Johnstown Area Heritage Association (JAHA)!

The Heritage Discovery Center appeals to groups of all ages - seniors, students and everyone in between! We can arrange a tour with a special admission rate for any group of 10 or more -- but tours should be arranged in advance with Melissa Bacon, Visitor Services Manager, at 814-539-1889 x 311.

Group rates for just the Heritage Discovery Center are available, but combination rates for both the Heritage Discovery Center and the Johnstown Flood Museum are an even better value - so plan to visit both sites! The two museums, which are located a half-mile apart, make for a wonderful day of sightseeing.

Additional group services available include:

  • Free education programs for student groups, available on this Web site -- There are three separate programs for the Heritage Discovery Center, all including pre-, post- and on-site activities designed to help teachers and student group leaders make the most out of a visit to us. As of November 2006, all three programs, "Push and Pull of Immigration," "Making a Life" and "Making a Living," are online. These programs allow students to use primary and secondary research materials to explore themes relevant to our museums, and all meet Pennsylvania state education standards. Click on the hotlink to browse these exciting activities.

  • Catered lunches served on-site at the Heritage Discovery Center or Johnstown Flood Museum. Hot buffet lunches and sandwich buffets are available -- click here for a complete menu. Boxed lunches, and pail "immigrant" lunches are also available. Call for pricing.

  • Step-on guides are available to help your group get the most out of your trip to Johnstown. Your guide can meet your bus at any Johnstown-area attraction, and share fascinating stories about the flood and Johnstown's history as you travel between attractions.

  • Bus parking -- Free, dedicated bus parking is available in the museum's large parking lot.
