As the week of festival 2011 arrived, all eyes were anxiously on the weather forecast -- it looked like we were going to get rain all three days. And, in fact, it did rain each of the three days -- but not a drop while the music was playing. The music was amazing, and the mood was high.

One of the many musical highlights was the Saturday evening performance by headliner Gregg Allman. Allman, a liver transplant recipient, had been struggling with a respiratory ailment in the weeks leading up to the festival -- in fact, he'd been forced to cancel a few dates in Germany in late July. So we were especially thrilled when he took the Bud Light Stage on Saturday night and presented a fantastic performance. On Sunday we read the news on jambands.com that he had to cancel many August and September dates in order to more fully recuperate, and the Tribune-Democrat's story on Monday reporting on the cancellations went out on the Associated Press. We wish Gregg Allman all the best in his continued recovery.

We enjoyed a number of special festival moments where performers sat in with each other. Terrance Simien, who wasn't even on Saturday's bill, came to festival grounds for an interview and sat in with Tab Benoit, treating the audience to a wonderful medley of New Orleans classics. Later, Tab would sit in during JJ Grey & Mofro's Saturday night set.

Finally, the festival wouldn't be possible without hundreds of volunteers, most of whom faithfully serve every year. In 2011 many volunteers worked their shifts, came back to the volunteer sign-in booth and asked if we needed more help. We can't tell you how much that means to us as organizers, and how much we appreciate all you do! Festival attendees and performers often remark how friendly everyone is, and that's largely because of our volunteers. THANK YOU!
