The Johnstown Film Festival was held June 16-19, 2010.

Thursday, June 17
Thursday evening took take place at the Johnstown Flood Museum.

Immediately preceding Thursday's competitive shorts, we screened a trailer for "Minefield," a documentary by Autonomi Productions currently under production. Thousands of children around the world are killed or maimed every year by landmines. "Minefield" is a documentary about Scotty Lee, a soccer coach and native of England who is living in Johnstown. Lee, through a charity called Spirit of Soccer, works with children living in some of the most dangerous areas of the world, using their love for football to teach them how to survive.

The festival hopes to show the completed film as our 2011 feature.

The Thursday competitive shorts are:

Don't Punch the Corpse (5:09) -- Only a misplaced corpse and a quivering clown could stir the dark temptations nibbling at a puppet's overstuffed heart. This black comedy is the first film for Ruschelle Dillon, a Johnstown musician and artist.

The Great Chickentown Robbery (29:38) - Three good friends from Chickentown hatch a plan to rob the local big money poker game, hoping to get enough scratch to escape Chickentown. By Johnstown filmmaker Clair R. Eash, who has 15 years of experience in film and video production.

Video Games (4:00) -- This short montage plays tribute to different genres of video games. Filmmaker Andy Wyant just graduated from Greater Latrobe School District and plans to attend IUP this fall with a double major in communications and theatre.

Another Journey to Oz (12:30) -- A documentary about the Petite Players, a youth theatre troupe from Elizabeth, Pa., as they rehearse for their musical production of Oz-- learning life lessons and becoming a family along the way. Filmmaker Dana Kerkentzes is a senior broadcast communications major at Westminster College of New Wilmington, Pa., and this film was screened at the No Limits International Student Film Festival; Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Happy Birthday Michael Mitchell (9:35) Filmmaker Kristine Jadyk adapted Joanna Estep's graphic novella, Happy Birthday, which depicts the American dream of leading a secret life. But how much is too much of a good thing?

En Plain Airways(5:30) -- The phrase En Plain Airways typically refers to art outside its form. With En Plain Airwaves, a series of commercials created on spec is presented, seeking to showcase narrative storytelling while still advertising a product. Filmmaker Andy Kelemen screened The Cask of Amontillado at our festival in 2006, and A Roof Above in 2007. He is an editor/producer with WQED Multimedia and KDKA Commercial Production in Pittsburgh.
