Vendor Opportunities

Updated April 14 2008

How To Apply
The FolkFest accepts vendors of food and drinks only -- vendors of crafts, services or other products are not allowed. If you have vended with us before, you will automatically receive an application. Applications for the 2008 event were sent on April 14 to everyone who vended with us in 2006 or 2007; if you are a new vendor and would like to apply, please contact Shelley Johansson at 814-539-1889 x308. Be prepared to discuss your menu possibilities, as the FolkFest avoids having too many vendors serving the same kind of food.

  • For more information about vending at FolkFest, contact Shelley Johansson at 814-539-1889, ext. 308.
  • Booth Fees and City Registration
For a participation fee of $500, Johnstown FolkFest will provide:
    • Space for a 10'x10' booth
    • Booth set-up and takedown (unless you are bringing your own, pre-approved booth(s)
    • Electrical service and installation
    • Grease mats and disposal
    • Space in a refrigerator/freezer truck
    • A fire extinguisher
    • Identifying signs for your booth (if desired).

    Additional booths are $400 each.

In addition, the City of Johnstown charges fees for:
    • A health license
    • A peddler's license
    • Mercantile tax registration

Your FolkFest vendor application will include complete information on all city requirements, as well as all paperwork needed to fulfill them.

Vendors who are part of Thunder in the Valley, a Johnstown festival that takes place each year in June, only need to complete the health department paperwork and mercantile tax registration one time each year-- they are valid for one year, and thus cover both festivals. However, these vendors will need to submit a new peddler's license to be part of FolkFest, as these licenses are only valid for one month.

Location of your booth is determined at the discretion of our logistics manager, on the basis of how soon we receive your application, how many years you've vended at the festival, and other special needs of the vendor and/or festival. If you have questions about any aspect of vending at the FolkFest, please contact Shelley Johansson at 814-539-1889 x308.

FolkFest requires that all vendors pay a 15% commission to the Johnstown Area Heritage Association on the gross sales of food and beverages sold at the festival by the vendor. Scrip will be used for all food and beverage sales.

    Food Safety Certification
Please note that state law requires all vendors to have a valid Pennsylvania state food safety certification certificate.ServSafe certification or other food safety certification programs do not satisfy this requirement unless you have submitted this information to the State of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Food Safety Division, and received an official certification certificate from the state. If you have taken a food safety class but do not hold a Pennsylvania food safety certification, you may submit your class information to the state, along with a $20 fee, to receive certification -- click here for a PDF of the necessary form. You may need to contact the Department of Agriculture at (717) 787-4315 first to make sure that your class satisfies the state requirement.

Click here to visit the state's Web site with information about this requirement and available certification programs, or call the State of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Food Safety Division, at (717) 787-4315.

Non-Profit Vendors at the Community Kitchen
Finally, local non-profits and churches are invited to participate in the Community Kitchen. Through this initiative, area non-profits and churches are provided with a booth to vend food and drinks without paying a booth fee (non-profits and churches are not subject to Pennsylvania state food safety licensing requirements, nor must they pay the Johnstown peddler's license fee). If you're interested in this fundraising opportunity, contact Shelley Johansson,at 814-539-1889 x 308.
