Welcome to the official site of the AmeriServ Johnstown FolkFest - one of the best free music festivals in the nation! Produced by the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, the FolkFest features more than 70 hours of free music over Labor Day weekend. Celebrating the 11th anniversary of AmeriServ's title sponsorship!

Accommodations & Travel Packages, Directions
Johnstown is a small city in western Pennsylvania that's easily accessible from most major cities in the region, including Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Washington, D.C. Signage will direct you to the festival park, which is located near downtown, when you reach Johnstown (click here for a downloadable festival map.) The park's address is 90 Johns Street, Johnstown 15901.

Ample parking is available in downtown Johnstown, and signs will direct you -- visit the Parking page for details.

Directions

By car:

From the east:
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike west to the Bedford Exit (Exit 146).Take 220/99 North and take the first exit (Fishertown/Cessna).Take 56 West (approximately 30 miles) to 219 North. Take the 56 West Exit (The Johnstown Expressway) and follow it through until you reach the city. The festival park is visible from 56, directly past Point Stadium. Take a right into the city before you reach Point Stadium to find one of the city-owned parking garages; signage will direct you. 

 

From Pittsburgh:
Take Route 22 East. Take the Armagh exit (Route 22) onto Route 56 East (which becomes Broad Street) and follow this approximately 8 miles into the City of Johnstown. Drive through the Cambria City neighborhood all the way into town -- you will pass under a railway bridge, at which point the festival park will appear on your left as you approach the city, directly before you pass Point Stadium. After you pass the Point, turn left into the city to find one of the city-owned parking garages. Signage will direct you. 

 

From Washington, D.C. or Baltimore, Maryland:
Take Interstate 70 West to Breezewood, PA. Enter the PennsylvaniaTurnpike West and take to Bedford Exit (#146). Take 220/99 North to the first exit (Fishertown/Cessna). Take 56 West (approximately 30 miles) to 219 North. Take the 56 West Exit (The Johnstown Expressway) and follow it into the city. From Route 80 and points north:
Take Route 80 West to Route 220 South. Exit 220 South to Route 22 West outside of Altoona. At Ebensburg, take 219 South to Route 56 West (Johnstown Expressway). Take the 56 West Exit (The Johnstown Expressway) and follow it into the city. The festival park will be visible on your right, directly after you pass Point Stadium. Turn right into the city to find one of the city-owned parking garages.

From Ohio and points west:
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike East to Somerset Exit (#110). Travel to Route 219 North. Exit 219 North at Route 56 West, the Johnstown Expressway. Take the 56 West Exit (The Johnstown Expressway) and follow it into the city. The festival park will be visible on your right, directly after you pass Point Stadium.

By air or rail:

Johnstown does have a small airport offering flights to several major airports. The closest major airport is Pittsburgh (about 2 hours), although Washington, D.C. and Baltimore are about 3 1/2 hours away by car.

Amtrak does offer service to Johnstown. The railway station is downtown and is part of the festival grounds, and within walking distance of the two downtown hotels (the Holiday Inn Downtown and EconoLodge; see below for details).
