39-star flag tucked in Stewart Kinkead’s pocket for the duration of the flood. Kinkead nearly drowned when the flood demolished the porch on which he was standing at the Merchant’s Hotel.

39-star flag that had decorated a Main Street home in honor of Decoration Day, the day before the flood. Trunk owned by Minnie Huston, who died in the flood. The trunk was found in a church downtown, far from the Hulbert House where Minnie Huston had been employed.
