The Johnstown Area Heritage Association is delighted to announce that two free concerts will be presented this summer at Peoples Natural Gas Park with the support of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. The Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Concert Series will kick off on July 3 with a funk show by Beauty Slap (pictured), with special guest Run the Meat.

“We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of Johnstown Area Heritage Association’s summer concert series at the beautiful Peoples Natural Gas Park,” said Marty Radovanic, director of client management for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. “Not only does the concert series provide local residents with the opportunity to enjoy live music from outstanding musicians right here in Johnstown, but it also brings together people from throughout the community in support of the arts.”

“JAHA is excited about the summer season at Peoples Natural Gas Park, including this concert made possible by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield,” said Shelley Johansson, director of communications for JAHA. “With these two acts, I think we’ve got a fantastic, high-energy show that will be a great lead-in to the July 4 holiday.”

Beauty Slap: This is a future-brass-thunder-funk machine. Four classically-trained horn players, computer, and keys. The thunderously funky screams of a traditional brass quartet meet the heaviest grooves modern dance music has to offer. The mission is to make you move.

Since forming in Pittsburgh, Beauty Slap has enjoyed national attention surrounding their debut project, THUNDERFUNK MACHINE, and northeastern tours. Armed with their powerfully groovy live show and impending album release, the group is poised for complete world domination.

Run the Meat: (pictured at right) The dirtiest hard-funk brass band ever bred, Run the Meat brings Grade A bangers sure to make you sweat. Catch us at a show near you for a full course of beefy brass, filling grooves, and most of all, the always-bringing-it attitude of “Run the Meat”!

Afro n’At: Forged in the steel mills of Johnstown, Afro n’At is a new group bringing their unique brand of hand-crafted funk n’at to the scene. Brought together by a love of all things groovy, the group delivers tunes that fuse horn-driven 60s and 70s funk with Afro-inspired beats and rhythms that are sure to get you on your feet.
