Johnstown, PA 15906

Dr. Ahmed Yousof, an expert in intercultural communication, will present a Unity in Diversity workshop sponsored by the Unity Coalition of the Alleghenies.

The one-hour interactive workshop addresses the importance of inclusion in understanding and dealing with the other. Although diversity is an influential factor in getting people with different backgrounds and beliefs together, inclusion has become a necessity in overcoming bias and divisive rhetoric that prevails at any community. The workshop will introduce concepts of inclusion and strategies that can be used to promote inclusion within the community.

“Johnstown to me is an ideal place to give this workshop because it is a relatively medium-sized community that functions as a representation of the U.S.,” Yousof said. “In Johnstown, you will find immigrants, poor and wealthy people, natives, older and younger people. Thus, it is an ideal place to promote the idea of unity.”

The free workshop will be held in the education center of the Heritage Discovery Center. Refreshments will be provided.

Dr. Ahmed Yousof is an assistant professor of digital media technology at East Stroudsburg University. His area of research is game design and intercultural communication. He has developed an internationally winning award videogame that addresses the cultural differences between the U.S and the Middle East.
