JAHA has been offered an opportunity to purchase paintings by Barbara Strank Zivkovich that are owned by her nephew Jeff Strank, who inherited the collection from her. Barbara Strank Zivkovich was active in the local art scene from the mid-1940s until the 1980s and was a member of Allied Artists of Johnstown and the Community Arts Center.

Born in Franklin Borough, Zivkovich studied at Hofstra College and at the Art Students League of New York. She considered the artists Charles Burchfield and Edward Hopper to be major influences. Her watercolor paintings wonderfully depicted the stark realities of industrial Johnstown and the way of life of people living here.

JAHA has chosen nine paintings that we are hoping to add to our permanent collection. The paintings have an appraised value of $500 each, and we have found donors willing to help us purchase four of the works at that price. If you would like to help us as we work to raise $2,500 for the remaining five, please contact Richard Burkert, JAHA president and CEO, at (814) 539-1889 x310.
