As of May 1, the Heritage Discovery Center/Johnstown Children’s Museum and Johnstown Flood Museum are open 7 days a week for the busy visitor season — we will maintain this schedule through December 1.  Welcome!

Steelworker Oral History Project

Do you have a story to tell?

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association is working on creating an archive of steelworker stories to preserve this history for generations to come. The oral histories collected will be part of the new exhibit “Forging a Nation: Johnstown Iron & Steel” in the Iron & Steel Gallery of the Heritage Discovery Center, as well as serve as resources for researchers. Anyone who worked in the steel industry in Johnstown is invited to participate.

Please send us an email below, and tell us the following:

  • Where and when you worked in Johnstown’s steel industry
  • A brief synopsis of your story
  • A phone number where we can reach you
  • Anything else you’d like us to know

Also, if you have any historic records or objects relating to the steel industry in Johnstown that you would like to donate, please describe them. Alternatively, come to the museum and fill out an interest form!

We will respond as quickly as we can, but it may take a few business days — we have a small staff with many responsibilities! Thank you for your patience, and for your support of this project.
