Museums for All program a big success in our first year!

Museums are great places for families to bond, learn, and explore – and JAHA wants our museums to be accessible to everyone.

That’s why the Heritage Discovery Center/Johnstown Children’s Museum and Johnstown Flood Museum participate in Museums For All, an initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Through Museums for All, people receiving SNAP or WIC benefits can receive a reduced admission rate of $3 per person. Participants simply present their SNAP EBT or WIC card at the admissions desk, and up to four people can receive the reduced rate.

Clearly, the program meets a need. So far in 2023, our first full year of participation, we have welcomed 518 people to the Heritage Discovery Center/Johnstown Children’s Museum and 149 to the Johnstown Flood Museum through the program. Information about Museums for All is available on the admissions page of each of our museum websites and in our gift shops, and we have tried to publicize it over social media and other channels.

Now, we are reaching out to the community to try and reach more people who might benefit. Letters are going out to relevant community organizations, along with a flyer. The flyer can be downloaded at the button below, and hard copies can be obtained from Shelley Johansson, director of communications.
